Spring Is (Was) Here (and Is Now Back?)

Confusing title for this entry? Well, one thing we've learned since we moved here is that the weather is always changing ...and changing quickly. The winters seem so mild to us and spring seems to come early. We have experienced many lovely days with temps in the 60s, 70s and even a few 80s for quite awhile now. Then, we get hit with the most snow of all this winter this past Saturday... around 3 inches. Well, now it is Monday and it is 63 degrees. So, after a weekend of winter-like weather, I was ready to change the look of our blog and get back to the happy feeling of spring.

This past week, the girls decorated some paper mache eggs using shiny tissue paper and Modge Podge. It was quite a sticky situation!

Spotty

W caught a respiratory virus last week which caused a very bad cough and wheezing. We thought it may be RSV again but then were told that colds would be more severe for a year after having RSV...poor guy...the RSV curse. This virus also led to an ear infection which led to amoxicillin. Then, this past week we visited Grandma and Grandpa in St. Louis. W had his first veggie....carrots. The next morning he broke out in hives. Grandma and I had a feeling it was the amoxicillin (even though he was on day 7) rather than the carrots but I was told differently by a nurse on the doctor's office line. She felt it was the carrots and told me to continue the meds. Last night and today the hives became much worse. This picture doesn't even show that many of the hives are nickel size, some quarter size, and very swollen. They are everywhere...even on his head. Anyway, W visited with the doctor today who said that this was an amoxicillin allergy. Even though he had a full course 2 months ago and was on day 7 of this course, it was still the meds. Ahhh....should have listened to Grandma and my 'gut feeling' not to give him anymore meds. Anyway, he is happy and they should begin to go away real soon. It seems like W has been sick a lot... he has the disadvantage of being exposed to everything that comes home from school and preschool.

"I may be spotty, but I'm still happy!"

Go UD!

It seems funny that Rich and I's alma mater, the University of Dayton, is playing KU this Sunday in the second round of the NCAA tournament. This is funny because this is the first time UD has been in the tournament since 2004 and they are being matched up with Kansas...our home for the past 2 years after moving from Ohio. Living in our neighborhood and wearing UD shirts this Sunday.... now that is March Madness at its best.

Lucky

Happy St. Patrick's Day! We are certainly feeling lucky this St. Patrick's Day for many reasons. I asked the girls to tell me reasons why they think they are lucky. Here are their responses:

E-
My family
My friends
My grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles
We have food and water.

K-
I had a sleepover.
My stuffed animals
We have robes.
I have sparkly stickers.
My family

A-
Casey (her imaginary friend lives on)
Barack Obama
Ella (her second cousin)
My baby brother
Mama
My sisters
Dada
I have a lot of friends.

W (as decided on by his sisters) -
His foo-foos (pacifiers)
He has his family.
He has his mama to take care of him.

I'm sure you are wondering why A stated that she was lucky because of Barack Obama. Well, during the election, she liked McCain. However, that quickly changed after the election and 'Bubble-gum Oma' (as she used to call him) became a 'friend' of hers. Now, she talks about him all the time. She calls him on the phone (see video below), she says she is inviting him to her birthday party and brings his name up on a daily basis. So, we were not surprised when Obama was mentioned second on her lucky list....second only to Casey her imaginary friend...who A says is currently at Wal-Mart buying her a Cookie Monster stuffed animal for her birthday. :)

Here is the video of A calling Mr. President.

The past couple of weeks also brought a few 'firsts' to our family. K went to her first sleepover by herself. She was so excited and had her bag packed and was standing by the door a half-hour early. Unfortunately, when we went to take a picture of her the camera's battery needed charged...so no pic. :(

Also, W's best buddy came over, without his mommy, to play...a first official playdate! The two of them just sat together and stared and smiled at each other.

Next, E went to K's preschool to read a story to her class!

After the story, E and A joined K's class for a little dance.

Here is the video.

A also had her first solo playdate today. She has had friends over before with her big sisters but today the big sisters were not home and her sweet friend Caroline came over to play. A was very happy to feel like such a big girl today and the two of them were so cute together.

Hope your day is filled with lots of luck!

Our Little Man

W turned 6 months old yesterday! I simply can't believe that he is this old...I mean we are talking about a half of a year here...so the following seemed fitting for his photo shoot. Do you think he will be a 'finance guy' like his Daddy? He sure seems to 'look the part', doesn't he?

WJH -VP, Happiness Management, Director of Initiating Smiles, Manager of Inciting Giggles

This is fun!

Bear

A has been lovingly called Bear since she was 2 days old. We're not sure why...it just seemed to go well with her name. Our little 'A Bear' is quite the active little toddler who lives life to the fullest everyday. She is such a sweetheart who is funny and also quite mischievous. If you hear giggling, you had better go running to her to find out what is going on. Here are a few pictures I took of her this week...they pretty much tell the story of her personality. Can't you just see it in her eyes?

We love you so much Bear...our little brown-eyed girl.
